Follow me as I explore how I became a dental hygienist and the role a high dental hygienist salary played in choosing my career.

While growing up I had always been interested in a career based on health and wellness. I was obsessed with finding ways to function better, cleaner and to be more efficient. This obsession and my desire to make a good salary led me to several options in the heal care industry.

My mother had been in dentistry and my father had been in physical therapy. Both industries appealed to me and they helped people improve their general well being. I remember how I used to visit my parents on take your kid to work days and have a great time working with them. That time really sealed my desire for a health care career.

As I got older and worked my way through high school I had to start making some serious decisions about my future. What subject would I pursue? What college should I attend? Should I take some time off?

After several sessions with my parents and school provided guidance counselor, I decided that I would pursue dentistry as a profession. My first year of college I took a bunch general classes aimed at filling requirements but also started to focus on health related courses. Courses like anatomy and physiology helped get me in tune with the human body and they way we function.

As I progressed through college I started taking more and more specific and detailed classes about dental care. It was at this point that I had to decided whether I wanted to pursue being a dentist, dental assistant or dental hygienist. The jobs were very similar but the requirements for schooling lead me to stay away from becoming an actual dentist. Instead, I focused on becoming a dental hygienist. The dental hygienist salary was still very high, yet the many extra years or schooling was not necessary.
This decision was the best decision I have ever made.

One of the most efficient approaches to combat acne includes a combination of prevention and much better skincare. Right here are a lot of the methods you could use for acne treatment…

Exercise – Frequent physical exercise can help fight acne by fighting off negative pressure levels which could come from negative self-esteem and depression. But stay away from wearing tight lycra and nylon workout outfits. These synthetic fabrics that usually trap body moisture and heat, developing an ideal atmosphere for bacteria to grow. Stick to loose clothing produced of cotton or natural blends.

Cosmetics – To prevent pore clogging and skin irritations that can contribute to acne, use solutions labeled “noncomedogenic” or “oil-free.” Opt for “hypo-allergenic” perfumes and cosmetics to steer clear of allergic reactions and skin irritation. Shimmering facial colours can include a flaky mineral called mica which could result in skin irritations and clog pores. Use a lip gloss with a matte finish for less pore-clogging.

Diet – Research shows that diet regime does not play a role in either the result in or the therapy of acne. On the other hand, what’s finest for your body is finest for the skin. A superb high quality brand name multivitamin will probably have the advised vitamins and minerals that you need to support acne prevention. So make sure you get sufficient vitamins, minerals and supplements, these include:

Vitamin A or Retinol (High doses are toxic)

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin C

Vitamin E

L-Carnitine

Zinc

Skin Care – Steer clear of harsh scrubbing or over-washing, due to the fact this can result in achievable skin irritation or probable over production of oil to replace what’s washed off, clogging pores in the approach. Use goods with gentle exfoliation ingredients and skip merchandise that contain alcohol.

Shaving – Shaving is an excellent way of exfoliating or removing dead skin to help the prevention and spreading of acne as opposed to leaving the remains to clog pores. And for some light acne situations already in procedure, shaving can help rid whiteheads and blackheads from the face. Don’t shave places that are sore or infected. Use a shaving cream for sensitive skin. Shave with a sharp blade. Use gentle swipes as opposed to heavy pressure and go using the flow or “grain.” A single-edged blade is better than a twin-blade razor. Electric razors might possibly not shave as close to the skin, but they support with the prevention of acne and other skin breakouts and flare-ups better.

Stress – Strain consists of external and internal stressors. External stressors are those that compromise your skin’s capacity to heal, like oily make-up and too much sun. Internal stressors like anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression along with a range of other internalized emotions, can trigger chemical reactions inside your body that may result in acne flare-ups and other skin irritations. To combat internal stressors and avoid acne challenges, get lots of rest and sleep. Keep a check list of “Things that Calm You” handy for stressful occasions, like reading a book, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for an ice cream cone, and so on.

If you are in need to lose a large amount of weight then you have probably heard about different diet pills on the market. One of the most well know ones are based on the drug Phentermine.

Phentermine works so well due to its appetite suppressing properties. It does this by releasing chemicals that tell your brain you aren’t hungry. By limiting your craving to eat you are more likely to kick bad habits and lose weight fast.

Medically it is used as only a short term solution but you can make great progress in this period. It’s a good time to build up good habits while removing the bad ones from your routine.

There are some side effects when using Phentermine so make sure you consult your doctor before starting a course of the drug.

Many people are struggling with addiction, and alcohol is the most common drug that people get addicted to. Alcoholism ruins lives. It destroys families and robs people of everything they love. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Getting treatment for alcoholism or any addiction is the best way to overcome this devastating disease.

Why choose an alcoholism treatment program over just trying to quit on your own? Giving up an addictive substance such as alcohol is not the same as cutting chocolate out of your diet. Your body actually becomes dependent on alcohol. Many people in the latter stages of alcoholism can have serious and life threatening withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking abruptly without medical help.

When an alcoholic quits drinking and goes through detox in a treatment center there will be medical help available in case of problems. Also, with alcohol treatment program the person will get the emotional support they need as they learn to deal with live without alcohol. They will basically learn how to feel emotion and not numb it with alcohol.

Not only does an alcohol treatment program help the alcoholic, but they help the family as well. Families really suffer when a family member is caught in the web of addiction. Many treatment centers offer support groups and classes for family members. These groups will help the family learn how to deal with the feelings that they have and how to really help they alcoholic.

Alcoholism treatment is a worthwhile endeavor. If a person is ready to give up their dependence on alcohol, a treatment program is the best place for them to start.

Toss, turn, yawn, stretch, shift, toss some more – but you just can’t get to sleep. When you prepared for bedtime, you were so tired you thought you might fall asleep brushing your teeth.

But the clock face flashes 1 o’clock in the morning and you’re still not asleep. If this is a regular problem, you may have insomnia. Your sleep problems may be related to other medical conditions.

Breathing problems, back or leg pain, acid reflux and indigestion can disturb the body in ways that make sleep difficult no matter how tired you are. Emotional problems can also mess with your sleep.

If you’re feeling depressed, anxious or having obsessive thoughts, your mind just doesn’t shut down enough to allow sleep. If you experience a major loss, during the grieving period, sleep can be complicated.

Lifestyle changes can also cause sleep interruptions. Starting a new job with different hours that you are use can take time to adjust your sleep cycle. Staying up too late while watching television or surfing the Internet doesn’t give your body enough time to wind down from the day for effective sleep.

Constant stress at work or school that you just can’t let go of will definitely make a good night’s sleep elusive. Trying to drown your frustrations in alcohol, caffeine, or through smoking will only cause more sleep interruption problems.

If you’re tired of being tired all the time, here’s what you can do to overcome insomnia:

Reset your body clock by getting on a reasonable schedule. Don’t try to exhaust yourself with exercise, work or activity as a way to fall asleep. You already know that doesn’t work. Write down a schedule that allows an hour to prepare for sleep. Take a warm shower, turn off the TV and electronic communications and turn on some calming music (an instrumental CD, not the radio). Stretch and slide into bed at the time scheduled.

Don’t focus on going to sleep, think about relaxation. Visualize a pleasant, satisfying, relaxing place and see yourself in that place.

Gradually turn down the lights. This gives your body time to wind down better than going from fully lit room and monitor screen to dark room.

As you are resetting the sleep cycle and find yourself getting tired too early, increase your light exposure. Go outdoors in the sunshine or turn up the light in the room. The body responds to light and dark cues for sleep.

Cease any work or stressful activity at least three hours before bedtime. Let go the frustrations and allow your mind to focus on less intense things.

When insomnia can’t be managed by another other means or interferes too much with normal activities, you may need to get prescription medication. Whatever you do, don’t self medicate with over-the-counter sleep aids at night and wake-up pills during the day. That makes the problem worse. Don’t take any sleep medications unless monitored by a physician. You want to cure insomnia not acquire a drug problem.

As an scientifically proven alternative, you can also consider light therapy. It provides a natural boost that not only helps you sleep, but gives you increased energy throughout the day. Research has proven that the receptors in our eyes convert the blue light we see in the sky into chemicals that our bodies need to be active and energetic. Low-intensity blue light is effective at managing our body clocks more so than any other source of light.

The Philips goLITE BLUE Light Therapy Device is one such blue light emitter created with the help of the National Sleep Foundation. You can read more about the device at Amazon, where over 220 users of the device has given it an average rating of 4 1/2 stars – that’s quite an achievement and well worth a look if you’re not into sleeping pills.

Whether you were the last kid picked for kickball or the one left standing with the chaperones at the dance, didn’t you just want to fade into the wallpaper?

You certainly weren’t in a rush to repeat that moment. For people with Social Phobia, they do just fade away from contact with others rather than risk rejection. People with social phobia are scared of being judged as unworthy, laughed at or ignored.

They’re also certain that everyone in the room is watching and judging them. So fearful of this imagined scrutiny, people with social phobia find it almost impossible to go to a party, conference, training session or even to attend classes.

The fear that comes from social phobia is enough to interfere with going to school or work. No matter how many drug commercials you see on TV, you’re probably too embarrassed to tell anyone that you have Social Phobia.

Since your fears trigger things like nausea, trembling, blushing and stomachaches, you’re more likely to say that you can’t go to an event because you’re feeling sick. Being sick is accepted, nobody questions it, so it’s a safe response.

After getting away from the situation, you know that your fear isn’t realistic and you swear to go next time. But it’s just so hard to face your fear. You probably feel like no one would understand, yet over 15 million adults in the US alone are known to have Social Phobia.

That number is likely much larger if you consider those people who suffer from the same symptoms but don’t have a name for their feelings. It’s not un-manly or just a woman’s problem – because Social Phobia occurs equally among men and women.

Because you’re spending time alone and angry at yourself about what you’re missing, it’s easy to fall into a depression about it. Some people with Social Phobia try to self-medicate with illegal drugs or alcohol just to forget their inadequacies.

That only adds a new problem. Social Phobia can become so extreme that you’re absent from work to the point that you lose your job. After that happens, your self-confidence takes another beating so you make every possible excuse to avoid going out on job interviews.

Social Phobia also destroys friendships at a time when you really need other people to support you. Unless you share what you’re going through with a trusted friend, other people in your social circle may just write you off as snobby, rude or a loner.

Suddenly what you feared (being judged by others) starts happening as a reaction to you constantly canceling dates, making promises you can’t keep and acting aloof. It’s really a vicious cycle so you have to reach out to at least one person. Social Phobia is often overcome through prescription medications, hypnotherapy, or counselling.

If you or someone you know is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, you’re not alone. Each year, out of 100,000 people, 54 suffer from this specific type of arthritis alone. This isn’t a disease without hope. Although there is no formal cure, there are many different types of rheumatoid arthritis treatments used to make many of the symptoms fade.

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis aren’t always easy to spot. Many times, patients go undiagnosed because they don’t feel like their symptoms are severe enough to be taken to the doctor. Some symptoms come and go as they please, depending on how severe the inflammation in your tissue and joints are.

Once your body tissue becomes inflamed, rheumatoid arthritis becomes active. When the inflammation diminishes, the disease then goes into remission, where symptoms fade. Then when the inflammation occurs again, so do the symptoms. This important factor makes rheumatoid arthritis go easily undiagnosed because its victims are constantly feeling bad and then better.

Most people affected by rheumatoid arthritis complain of a pain in their wrists or hands. This makes opening things like pickle jars or peanut butter containers extremely painful. It also makes it difficult to turn doorknobs without feeling a sharp pain in your knuckles.

On rare occasions, rheumatoid arthritis can affect the joint that’s in charge of tightening your vocal cords in order to change the tone of your voice. Once that joint is inflamed, it most likely results in hoarseness of the voice or even loss of voice altogether.

While active, symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, stiffness, muscle aches, joint aches, lack of appetite, decrease energy, fatigue, swollen joints, or a redness of the skin around the affected joint.

The reason for the soreness and redness is due to the lining of tissue around the affected joint. When the tissue becomes inflamed again, your body produces excess amounts of something called synovial fluid (also known as joint fluid). This makes your joints thicken with inflammation and makes your joints sore and red.

As far as treatments go, there is no formal cure – but fortunately in the past few years, scientists have been making significant steps toward a viable treatment. There may be some types of drugs out there that claim to cure rheumatoid arthritis, but sadly, most of them don’t work.

Many doctors will be able to provide you with a list of things you can do to decrease the severity of the symptoms, so don’t be afraid to ask. Most doctors will recommend taking over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Medipren, or Ibuprofen. All of those medications are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (also known as NSAIDs). Don’t take any of these medications without permission from your physician.

An alternative to medication that shows much promise are automatic heat packs. These work by wrapping the affected area in a special pack that heats up to 165 degrees and penetrates deep into the muscles and joints to alleviate the symptoms of arthritis. One of the more popular models is the Thermophore Automatic Moist Heat Pack. You can buy it at Amazon, where over 200 users of the product have rated it an average of 4 1/2 stars!

If you’re setting out on a mission to quit smoking, make sure you implement a plan to attack your mental habit as well as face the withdrawal of nicotine physically from your body. Medications and counseling can contribute to an easier time when you quit smoking, because it’s an emotional and social habit as well as just a habit of motion, taking your fingers to and from your mouth to inhale a cigarette.

There are many ways to get psychological help for your addiction. They need to be done in conjunction with the physical removal of nicotine, not just before or after you’ve quit smoking.

You may opt for phone counseling, which you can find through the American Cancer Society’s Quitline. This way you’re connected with a trained counselor whenever you need help with your plans to quit smoking.

There are some common traps counselors can help you avoid that usually cause someone who has quit smoking to return to the nasty habit. Phone counseling is a convenient way to reach out for support because it’s available at all times, from anywhere you have a phone connection.

Some people who want to quit smoking need to do nothing more than turn to family and friends in their time of need. It’s especially helpful if there’s someone you know who has already quit smoking and will understand what you’re going through.

There are also programs organized specifically for people who want to quit smoking. Being a part of a group can be beneficial in giving you the extra support you need to break the habit once and for all.

You may discover that you prefer individual counseling over group meetings, but either way, counseling helps people quit smoking more than those who try to go it alone. Some organizations will be intense, and others more flexible. The more intense it is, the higher your chance of success to quit smoking.

If you feel like your addiction is strong, then try to find a frequent meeting that lasts at least half an hour. Try to find those with experience to help you with you quit smoking. Never fall for the quick and easy claims some groups make just to take your money.

And finally, with recent advances in technology, there are now handheld computers that can help you quit smoking. The most popular one is the QuitKey Smoking Cessation Computer. It’s a small, hand-held device that creates a personalised gradual reduction program to help you quit smoking for good. The great thing is that it has been proven effective through numerous studies, so you’re not throwing your money way.

If you’d like to try it, you can read more and purchase a QuitKey at Amazon. There are many positive reviews from users who have used it to successfully quit smoking, leaving it with an average rating of 4 1/2 stars, which is quite a rarity.

Stress is inevitable for most workplaces, but the key is to learn how to control it. You can manage stress and keep it to a minimum if you recognize the factors that can lead to stress in your workplace and utilize ways to minimize the effect they can have on you.

Here are some of the common stressors in the workplace and ways to handle them:

Rude co-workers

Most of us have had to deal with rude co-workers at one time or another. Having to be exposed to that rudeness can cause a lot of stress for anyone, making their job performance suffer needlessly.

There are a few ways to handle this kind of situation. First of all, decide if it’s something that really bothers you or not. Sometimes just ignoring them is all you need to do your job effectively.

When ignoring them doesn’t work, you may want to try talking the situation out with them. Sometimes, they may not even know that they’re coming across as being rude. Getting it out in the open relieves that added stress.

If that doesn’t help, you’ll have to go to your boss and tell them what’s going on and that it’s been affecting your work. Sometimes they’ll take ahold of the situation themselves in order for things to run smoothly.

Mean boss

Maybe it’s not a rude co-worker you’re dealing with, but a mean boss. Putting up with a boss that makes you miserable can be very stressful. You’ll want to try talking with them first to see if that helps the situation.

If that doesn’t work, then you’ll have to go over their head to someone else and tell them what’s going on. Keep a list of the things the boss has said and done and share it with an HR person or whomever you discuss your problem with.

There’s no reason to have to put up with that at the workplace when it’s not warranted. It’ll cause too much stress for you and make your job performance slide. Most companies will work with you to resolve the problem.

Huge workload

Having more work than you can handle can make stress inevitable. Take on only what you can handle at one time. Ask for help from others and be willing to reciprocate and help them when they need it. A lot of things can be accomplished with teamwork.

Stress in the workplace can come from many other sources as well. Learn what causes your stress and find out how to work through it. Your workplace can be a stressful environment, but don’t let that stress get the best of you.

At first, it seemed like going green by using things such as organic hair care products was a fad – soon to fade away like the hundreds of other fads experienced throughout history.

Makers of organic hair care products tout that if you use their product, not only do you get great looking hair but you can do your part to preserve the earth’s natural resources. Many of the proponents say that going organic is also safer for people than the regular products. But is this just more advertising hype or is it true?

No, it’s not hype. It’s true that using organic products for your hair not only promotes green living, but is also safer to use and it’s the best on the market regardless of your hair type.

Despite any economic recession, the number of consumers purchasing organic beauty care products continues to climb. It’s not a fad. Organic is here to stay because people have chosen to educate themselves about the products they use.

Smart consumers realize that using non organic hair care products can have an impact on their health and decide to make a switch. Many of the ingredients used in regular shampoos, gels or hair sprays can not only be bad for your hair, they contain ingredients that are toxic and some are known carcinogens.

That’s why it’s so important to not only know what the ingredients really are but to choose to go with organic hair care products instead. Did you know that even regular infant shampoos can contain ingredients that aren’t good for your scalp or your child’s either?

Because your scalp can soak in toxins from regular shampoos and other hair products, the chemicals (widely known as preservatives) in these products can pose significant risks to your overall health, especially over long term usage.

By purchasing more expensive shampoo, gels and sprays from a hair salon rather than off a shelf at the grocer, some people assume it’s a safer product that’s also better for their hair. However, the toxicity and health related issues for professional salon products is equal to or greater than those off the shelf brands.

Organic hair care products are a smarter choice and a long term solution to better hair care for the entire family. The way you use organic hair care products is the same as any regular products except you can rest assured you’re doing something better for your body and the world. Become proactive about your hair care. Choose the products guaranteed to give you the look you want as well as the ones that keep your health foremost in mind.

You can find organic hair care products in a variety of stores, such as health food stores or you can buy it from an online supplier like Amazon. The benefit of buying online is that you can find specific organic hair care products that are geared toward the health care needs of your hair type.

Should you take the online supplier route, there’s an organic hair care solution you need to know about. It’s called Pureology NanoWorks Shampoo & Conditioner – it has a 100% vegan formula, no sulfates, aromatherapy essences and certified organic botanicals. At Amazon, the range has a 4 star rating and some very positive reviews. You can read more about why we love it here.
